Diamond is the ultimate MEMS, biomedical, electronic, and mechanical substrate, combining properties unmatched by any other material. Until now, however, it has been impossible to capture the properties of diamond in thin film form suitable for wafer-based applications with the levels of reliability and reproductibility demanded by the semiconductor industry. Advanced Diamond Technologies offers diamond thin-film products for direct integration and next generation, breakthrough semiconductor applications.
The Aqua series of UNCD® films from ADT are electrically insulating phase-pure nanocrystalline diamond films. Other nanocrystalline diamond films are typically comprised of graphitically-bonded material intermixed with crystalline diamond grains. In contrast, UNCD films have no amorphous graphitic phases. The results are films that capture the hardness, modulus and other extreme properties of natural diamond but are also smooth and have very low internal stresses.
Aqua Series (electrically insulating diamond)
- Aqua 25 – Thin, smooth (~7 nm rms) UNCD film. Perfect for MEMS devices, smooth nanotechnology applications like nano imprint lithography and in general, the all-purpose UNCD product
- Aqua 100 – The highest thermal conductivity UNCD, appropriate for heat spreading and transparency in the optical spectrum

The ADT Lightning series of UNCD films are electrically-conductive versions of the Aqua series. UNCD Lightning has a resistivity of approximately 0.2 ohm-cm. For more information about UNCD Lightning, please contact us directly or refer to the UNCD Wafers Data Sheet.
The Horizon technology delivers UNCD in ultra-smooth form. The surface of a Horizon 25 wafer has a roughness value of less than 1nm rms. More information can be found in the UNCD Horizon Brochure.
