Qualifications include:

Advanced Diamond Technologies, Inc., (ADT) a world leader in the development and commercialization of thin film diamond-enabled products, is seeking a MEMS Process Engineer to join their team. ADT is a fast growing, award-winning venture backed high-tech company based in Romeoville, Illinois. ADT is pursuing an aggressive plan to bring to market a series of MEMS products based on ultrananocrystalline diamond (UNCD®). Position location: Romeoville, IL
Responsibilities include:
The MEMS process engineer will be responsible for running and optimizing fabrication processes for integration of UNCD in MEMS devices, such as resonators and filters, sensors, probes for scanning probe techniques, and others. The work supposes access to nanofabrication facilities both in the Chicago area, and by temporary travel to remote locations. The process engineer will be a part of the R&D team, but also perform production tasks, both rated at about 50% of the working time. The applicant should be a solution finder, good record keeper, and also a strong follower of the “repeat it identically” principle for production purposes.
Qualifications include:
- A Bachelor-level degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or other relevant discipline.
- Practical experience relating to micro- and nanofabrication processing (e.g. lithography, etching, deposition, CVD) and measuring techniques.
- Experience with, and willingness to work in a clean room.
- Experience with designing masks and layouts (L-Edit or AutoCad).
- Knowledge of finite element analysis – based computer simulation programs preferred.
- Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and/or scanning force microscopy (SFM) imaging experience preferred.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to travel on a moderate basis.

Diamond Research and Development Principal Investigator
Advanced Diamond Technologies, Inc. (ADT), the leader in the development and commercialization of thin film diamond-enabled products, is seeking highly-motivated individuals to join the team as the company’s commercial product sales begin to ramp up. ADT is a young, fast growing, award-winning high-tech company based in Romeoville, IL. ADT is currently developing products enabled by diamond for use in the nanomanufacturing, telecommunications, biomedical, and industrial sectors. We currently have an opening for a Diamond R&D Principal Investigator.
Position location: Romeoville, IL
Position purpose: The Diamond R&D Principal Investigator (PI) is a key member of the Research & Development team and is responsible for advancing ADT’s propriety form of synthetic diamond (ultrananocrystalline diamond or UNCD) as well as integrating UNCD into products. The primary job responsibility is to identify potential new applications of UNCD and to perform work to develop and evaluate UNCD for these applications, generating results, expertise, and other collateral suitable for transferring new products into production. Secondary duties include securing resources needed to support early stage development work by identifying new sources of government funding (e.g. SBIR, contract research, etc.) as well as the generation and submission of proposals, and project management.
A PI is self-motivated and capable of carrying out independent work. A high degree of innovative input is expected, and he/she contributes to the total ongoing R&D effort across multiple projects and application spaces. The individual should embrace taking on high-risk projects, supervising other staff, and being involved in the selection of support staff. The PI takes the lead in the construction and submission of grant proposals as well as assuming the primary responsibility to direct and manage projects that are selected for funding. The PI should have in-depth experience working in an industrial R&D setting and knowledge of a wide range of technical subjects from materials science to biology. Experience in interviewing/hiring and training personnel to perform tasks related to the execution of contract research is a must, as is direct experience in advancing a concept from early stage prototypes to production ready. Superior project/time management skills are a must.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead multiple projects supported by contract research and internal funding.
- Identify new potential product opportunities and conduct early-stage analysis of their value proposition.
- Identify funding sources to support early-stage technical development aligned with long-term project goals of the company.
- Lead the process to construct and submission grant proposals to government institutions such as NSF, DARPA, DTRA, DOD, etc…
- Direct teams of scientists and research technicians to execute tasks and deliver products to engineering for production.
- Resolve technical problems related to the integration of diamond thin films with other materials and/or chemical/biochemical modification of diamond surfaces.
- Provide technical input as needed in marketing, sales, and business development activities related to new products.
- Assume a leadership role in the company.
Qualifications include:
- A Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Biology, Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years hands-on industrial experience.
- Expert in the science and development of Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) diamond thin films for applications – or significant experience with a number oftechnologies/materials spanning the basic-applied-commercial continuum.
- Extensive experience with the identification of government funding sources and opportunities, as well as managing relationships with program managers at these agencies.
- Extensive experience with the submission of proposals to government agencies.
- Experience with wafer-scale microfabrication processes.
- Experience with common analytical techniques used for characterization of advanced materials.
- Experience with nanomaterials and structure/properties relationship in these systems.
- Knowledge regarding product development and the integration of market intelligence into early-stage R&D activities.
- Knowledge regarding effective time management skills and the ability to multi-task on diverse topics and get things done (GTD).
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Skilled in data interpretation and report writing.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the management of teams working to solve problem under pressure.

Sales Executive
Advanced Diamond Technologies, Inc. Position Purpose:
Proactively respond to customer inquiries and sell Advanced Diamond Technologies’ wafer-based product lines to customers. Lead and/or assist in sales/customer data analysis and reporting, and marketing functions. Work as a team-member to meet ADT sales targets.
Responsibilities include:
- Respond to customer inquiries and partner with other staff on the ADT Customer team to meet our critical 24-48 hour target response timeframe.
- Prepare sales plans, prospect, contact and sell UNCD product line solutions to private and public sector customers.
- Develop, deliver and follow up on quotations sent to customers.
- Manage customer projects that include working with and coordinating outside vendors; these projects may take months and require attention to detail and continual knowledge of project status.
- Follow-up with customers to gather data as to how ADT products are or might be used. Consolidate information and write application notes and case studies.
- Represent company at trade shows, conferences and occasional offsite client meetings.
- As necessary, assist with order management, shipping, and process documentation.
- Enter and analyze sales pipeline/forecast data into our Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool.
- Analyze sales data and develop team performance reports.
- As part of the ADT Customer team, partner with research and production staff to meet company revenue targets.
Assist in marketing efforts by:
- Conducting market research.
- Creating content for the website by assessing customer needs and coordinating with the research team to gather technical data to be analyzed and published.
- Partner with the marketing coordinator to create visually appealing and productive collateral for trade shows
- Assist the Director in creating messaging that resonates within the semiconductor, medical, industrial and MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) markets.
REQUIRED qualifications include:
- A customer focused attitude, committed to quality and an attention to detail
- 5+ years professional experience selling technical product solutions.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Engineering, Life Sciences or other relevant discipline.
- Experience with a Solutions and/or Consultive oriented sales process.

Production Manager
Advanced Diamond Technologies, Inc. (ADT), the world leader in the development and commercialization of thin film diamond-enabled products, is seeking highly-motivated individuals to join the team as the company’s commercial product sales begin to ramp up. ADT is a young, fast growing, award-winning high-tech company based in Romeoville, Illinois (Chicago suburbs). We currently have an opening for a Production Manager.
This position is a key member of the executive management team at ADT and the opportunity exists for rapid advancement to Director of Manufacturing. The position reports to the President of the company.
Position location: Romeoville, IL.
Position Purpose: The Production Manager is responsible for delivering quality products on time and on budget. The primary job responsibility is to manage all aspects of ADT’s production which includes:
- Production and delivery of all commercial products in accordance with customer requirements and expectations
- Introduction of new products into production, coordinating with Engineering and Marketing
- Development and implementation of robust production processes and procedures to assure product consistency and repeatability
- Facilities and equipment maintenance and operation
- Management and coordination of all supplier and vendor resources in support of production requirements
- Coordinate equipment resources that are shared by both production and R&D
- Being the responsible executive in the company for safety
- Initially responsible for implementing a Quality function
- Weekly reporting to management through a Production Dashboard
The Production Manager must be able to develop and manage a team that implements production procedures rigidly to achieve consistent product performance and quality, maintains equipment in excellent operating condition and manages and schedules all production material and supplies.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage all production personnel which includes:
- Production support personnel
- Facilities manager
- Schedule manufacturing and maintenance work orders.
- Develop and maintain documentation of processes and procedures to ensure “operator independence” and high levels of reproducibility. These include:
- Inspecting received substrate materials prior to diamond deposition
- Procurement of substrate materials as needed
- Preparation of substrate materials
- Operational guidelines on production tools/instrumentation
- Monitoring product standards and implementing and maintaining a quality-control program.
- Preventive maintenance of all equipment
- Post-deposition inspection and quality control
- Disposition of finished goods either to inventory or shipment to customers
- Strict adherence to company procedures and data gathering and logging consistent with company policies.
- Manage and replenish consumables including chemicals and gas bottles.
- Maintain records about equipment and process conditions and subsequent product characterization.
- Drive continuous improvements in production methods and processes including diamond deposition, pre-deposition cleaning and preparation, post-deposition inspection and QC.
- Assist in developing measurable goals for ADT’s production operations along with methods to measure progress and to appropriately monitor the contributions of production personnel.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
- Be the first point of contact for any problems with production or facilities.
- Interface with sales & marketing, engineering and R&D as needed for custom orders.
Required qualifications include:
- 10+ years relevant professional experience to include 5+ years managing an industrial production team that utilized thin film vapor deposition tools (preferably CVD) or related hardware and supporting facilities.
- Expert knowledge of gas handling systems.
- Experience operating precise laboratory equipment such as optical microscope and profilometer.
- Working knowledge of manufacturing software tools to track production processes from quotation to delivery.
- Demonstrable evidence of having managed teams of production personnel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Obsessive attention to detail.
- A challenge-seeking work personality with a strong work ethic.
- Critical thinking, proven problem-solving ability and a healthy dose of common sense.
