Diamond
Research and Development Principal Investigator
Advanced Diamond Technologies, Inc. (ADT), the leader in the
development and commercialization of thin film diamond-enabled
products, is seeking highly-motivated individuals to join the
team as the company’s commercial product sales begin to
ramp up. ADT is a young, fast growing, award-winning high-tech
company based in Romeoville, IL. ADT is currently developing products
enabled by diamond for use in the nanomanufacturing, telecommunications,

for a Diamond R&D Principal Investigator.
Position location: Romeoville, IL
Position Purpose:
The Diamond R&D Principal Investigator (PI) is a key member
of the Research & Development team and is responsible for
advancing ADT’s propriety form of synthetic diamond (ultrananocrystalline
diamond or UNCD) as well as integrating UNCD into products. The
primary job responsibility is to identify potential new applications
of UNCD and to perform work to develop and evaluate UNCD for these
applications, generating results, expertise, and other collateral
suitable for transferring new products into production. Secondary
duties include securing resources needed to support early stage
development work by identifying new sources of government funding
(e.g. SBIR, contract research, etc.) as well as the generation
and submission of proposals, and project management.
A PI is self-motivated and capable of carrying out independent
work. A high degree of innovative input is expected, and he/she
contributes to the total ongoing R&D effort across multiple
projects and application spaces. The individual should embrace
taking on high-risk projects, supervising other staff, and being
involved in the selection of support staff. The PI takes the lead
in the construction and submission of grant proposals as well
as assuming the primary responsibility to direct and manage projects
that are selected for funding. The PI should have in-depth experience
working in an industrial R&D setting and knowledge of a wide
range of technical subjects from materials science to biology.
Experience in interviewing/hiring and training personnel to perform
tasks related to the execution of contract research is a must,
as is direct experience in advancing a concept from early stage
prototypes to production ready. Superior project/time management
skills are a must.
Responsibilities include:
• Lead multiple projects supported by contract research
and internal funding.
• Identify new potential product opportunities and conduct
early-stage analysis of their value proposition.
• Identify funding sources to support early-stage technical
development aligned with long-term project goals of the company.
• Lead the process to construct and submission grant proposals
to government institutions such as NSF, DARPA, DTRA, DOD, etc…
• Direct teams of scientists and research technicians to
execute tasks and deliver products to engineering for production.
• Resolve technical problems related to the integration
of diamond thin films with other materials and/or chemical/biochemical
modification of diamond surfaces.
• Provide technical input as needed in marketing, sales,
and business development activities related to new products.
• Assume a leadership role in the company.
Qualifications include:
• A Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Biology,
Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years hands-on industrial experience.
• Expert in the science and development of Chemical Vapor
Deposition (CVD) diamond thin films for applications – or-
significant experience with a number of technologies/materials
spanning the basic-applied-commercial continuum.
• Extensive experience with the identification of government
funding sources and opportunities, as well as managing relationships
with program managers at these agencies.
• Extensive experience with the submission of proposals
to government agencies.
• Experience with wafer-scale microfabrication processes.
• Experience with common analytical techniques used for

MEMS Process Engineer
Advanced Diamond Technologies, Inc. (ADT), the leader in the

company based in Romeoville, IL. ADT is currently developing products
enabled by diamond for use in the nanomanufacturing, telecommunications,
biomedical, and industrial sectors. We currently have an opening
for a MEMS Process Engineer.
Position location: Romeoville, IL
Position Purpose:
The MEMS Process Engineer is a key member of the Research &
Development team. The MEMS process engineer will be responsible
for running and optimizing fabrication processes for integration
of UNCD in MEMS devices, such as RF Devices, chemical and biological
sensors, and probes for scanning probe techniques. The work requires
the ability to travel to and develop new procedures within various
industrial or academic nanofabrication facilities within the United
States, primarily in the Chicago region. The process engineer
will be a part of the R&D team and is expected to work to
some extent independently to resolve problems and innovate new
solutions, but will also perform production tasks associated with
bringing products to market.
Broad experience in micro fabrication techniques is a must. Experience
working in an industrial setting is greatly preferred, however
applicants with academic experience only will also be considered.
Experience with the design of MEMS devices as well as integration
with microelectronics and microfluidic technologies is a definite
plus. Some exposure to the technology of thin films is desired.
A background in a scientific discipline such as mechanical or
electrical engineering, materials science, physics, or chemistry
is also highly desirable.
Responsibilities include:
Execute Tasks and overcome technical difficulties associated
with product development projects and contract research work with
teams of scientists and research technicians to execute tasks
and deliver products to engineering for production.
Resolve technical problems related to the integration of diamond
thin films with other materials and/or chemical/biochemical modification
of diamond surfaces Communicate results of experiments performed
in support of contract research projects and product development
to the CTO and ADT Senior management Conduct work in a timely,

to details.
Required qualifications include:
- BS or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,
Physics or Chemistry with exposure to micro- and nanofabrication
processing.
- Knowledge of basic nanofabrication processes (lithography,
etching, deposition, CVD) and different measuring techniques.
- Experience with, and willingness to work in a clean room.
- Experience with designing masks and layouts (Ledit or AutoCad).
- Strong academic and industrial background related to the MEMS,

Production Support
Technician

a Production Support Technician.
Position location: Romeoville, IL
Position Purpose:
The Production Support Technician is a key member of the production
team and is responsible for delivering quality products on time.
The primary job responsibility is to be able to follow production
procedures rigidly and to report on any deviations. Secondary
duties include supporting research and development team with developmental
projects.
Responsibilities include:
• Characterization and preparation of substrate materials
prior to diamond deposition.
• Scheduling of diamond depositions.
• Operate diamond reactors.
• Post-deposition characterization of diamond films using
various techniques including surface profilometry, Raman spectroscopy,
optical microscopy, thickness measurement, four point probe resistivity
measurement and friction testing. Training will be provided.

Job Description:
An experienced manufacturing engineer with demonstrated performance
executing and leading a wide range of tasks that center on both
product development, reliability testing and production support
including:
• process improvement

• mechanical design of components
• design for manufacturing
• quality assurance procedures
• assessment of performance
• system and material testing
• engineering project planning and budgeting
Experience:
This position requires the experience that results from working
in an manufacturing environment as a mechanical or project engineer
for at least 5 years. Qualified candidates will have demonstrated
high-energy levels in his/her work and a strong evidence of being
self-motivated with the capability to develop and apply solutions.
Direct experience in the areas of process control, instrumentation
and especially in industrial pumping is a plus. Experience in
material processing or thin film technologies including characterization
and metrology are also a positive. Experience in material processing,
lapping or polishing of ceramics, or thin film technologies including
characterization and metrology will also be viewed favorably.
Only those with proven skills related the use of computers to
manipulate data and correlate results should apply. The ability
to express simple mechanical designs into engineering drawings
that can be subsequently fabricated by outside machine shops is
mandatory. The ability to routinely use 2D and 3D CAD and manage
drawing files is a plus.
Reporting: The position reports to the Director
of Manufacturing.
Required Qualifications include:
• Proven and demonstrated manufacturing experience leading
project tasks

• Computer skills including all MS Office tools and software
focused on data including combinations of applications such as

test equipment

• Familiarity with Six Sigma and/or ISO 9000 principles
Education/Experience:
• Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5 years
